Collage madness strikes again!

I joined up for another Collage round Robin.
This time there are fewer players and I will be mailing to the USA, so have to be on the ball re deadlines.
I have done my background which is just about to be mailed off.
I used my new Golden Acrylics in tubes, Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, Q Magenta and Green Gold.
I've been dying to use these paints and finally picked them up at the craft fair.

My first attempt showed just how vibrant these can be - a lurid yellow ochre with slurps of magenta and a few splodges of kacky lime green.
I wasn't pleased!
After allowing it to dry overnight in the hope that it might have somehow changed since I last looked at it I was forced to concede that "Something had to Be Done".

Figuring that blue would tone down the yellow I did a wash of my ordinary old children's quality Blue acrylic.  Surprise surprise - it turned the whole thing into a glowing rusty/greeny landscape with splodges of blue where I had dripped blue onto it for good measure.
Some of the magenta shines through and the whole thing has a sort of shimmering quality.
Needless to say I am delighted!!!

Orientalia

A friend of mine from the knitting group has recently been obsessed with Origami!
She met a chap on the train who has become a friend over time, and he started a project of folding paper cranes for Hiroshima day exhibition at Federation Square.
She tried to rope us in, but my attempts proved I had more than 2 thumbs so I passed.
Now she is folding little turtles to take as gifts on her current trip to Ireland and London for a conference.
Using Japanese papers, she has to cut a small piece off each sheet and she thought (of Course !!!) that I would be able to make use of them "somewhere" in my artworks.
Sooooo...
I made a set of ATC's out of the offcuts. They had to have an oriental flavour, and I will give her her choice of them for her and her foldy friend.
The others will add to the stock ready to go for swaps!

Flattery gets everywhere - even on e-bay

I was searching for a quote on flattery to use in a Deco Book I am working on at the moment.
Vastly amused to find this small advert on the quotations page I was searching on.

Sampling samplers

I have become involved (yet again!) in an on-line knitalong
This time it is run by a Dutch knitter who discovered a sampler knitted by a young girl in the  mid 1800's. It was done as a sampler for knitting stockings - very fine white wool .
An intriguing side issue here is that the patterns are given in Dutch and English, as is the posting to the group, so I am absorbing a few Dutch knitting terms as I go!

We are getting one pattern each Saturday and I have so far kept up.
I'm knitting in cotton and think I'll make it into a scarf when I've finished.
