I'm sad to report that my much loved father died on Tuesday 9th October at 3pm.
He didn't quite make his 89th birthday (Today -24th October) but did get to see his football team, the Mighty Cats, win the Grand Final.
He had always wanted to stay in the home that he and my mother built at Ocean Grove and we tried to keep him there as long as possible. He spent several weeks in hospital before he was able to go into a nursing home. He was only there for a week.
He was very frail and just tired out and ready to go. I was called early in the morning and talked with him and played some of his favourite music CD's. His doctor saw him and I called the family and we were all there with him for the rest of the time. At 3pm he just slipped away. It was very peaceful and the right time to go.
We had a service of thanksgiving for his life last Tuesday at the church in Ocean Grove where we grew up and where he was so involved for so many years. The service really showed what sort of man he was and all that he contributed to his family and friends and to the community. The music was special and reminded all who were there of how important music was to him throughout his life.
Although my immediate memories of him are as an old man, I have many lovely ones of him playing with us and entertaining guests, something he did so well.
I will miss him but I know that he is now at peace.
