Managed to fit in lots of fun stuff to my Saturday this week.
First my monthly trip to the Farmer's Market. My friend Irene and I have vowed to single handedly (well double really) keep the market going and to that end we spend an inordinate amount of cold hard cash at many of the stalls.
This time I bought Artichokes, Cavolo nero (black Kale) Coffee beans, Fruit bread, Gorgeous Pink Proteas, Misty Morn blue cheese from the Apostle Whey Cheese company (near Apollo Bay), Music on CD of the Andean band who were playing there, Onion Focaccia, Portugese custard tart (1 only for Tony!) and Tomato Passata.
I could have bought lots more but a girl's shopping bag is only soooo big and her purse soooo little.
Next stop Eastern Beach for World Wide Knitting in Public Day (also the Yarn Harlot's 40th Birthday - how she managed to have these coincide I'll never know!)
A great group sampled the menu, knitted, chatted and enjoyed the soft blues of the bay, the sky and the You Yangs
I even wore my Collinette Tagliatelli cardigan as it was such a cold day and I felt that WWKIP day required a special effort.
The day was not yet over however. We proceeded to Melbourne, got there in time to view the Kimono exhibition at the Immigration Museum.
Then on to at the Crown Casino for dinner at Guiseppe Arnaldo & Sons (GAS) and on to the Ballet.
The Australian Ballet presented an evening devoted to Jerome Robbins and the four pieces were each very different from the other. Music by Shostakovitch, Bach, Debussy and Chopin showed just how much variation there could be in one evening. The Cage was a study in the conflict of good and evil set in an insect community.
A Suite of Dances produced a pairing of dancer and cellist, along with gorgeously rich music by Bach.
Afternoon of a Faun captured the narcissistic movements of a young Faun and a passing girl, both dancers totally engrossed on their own performances as viewed in the imaginary mirror across the front of the stage.
We were lucky to see Carlos Acosta the visiting artist who made the perfect self aware Faun inspecting the world from his own point of view.
The Concert is a comic ballet which explores the way an audience's minds wander during the performance. Lots of laughs but the dancers made some difficult pieces look easy.
What a full day - there should be more of them !!!!
