I've just finished my first real "proper" hand embroidery project (as a grown up.
I did face washers, a tablemat, a cloth doll, some smocking and a black and red handbag as a child/teenager- those are what I remember anyway)
These Xmas stars are for the Geelong Embroiderer's Guild to use to decorate one of the drawing roooms at the Johnston Collection in East Melbourne. The whole house will have decorations made by a variety of Geelong sewing/craft groups. My star will be on the big Xmas tree, amongst many others, hopefully it will be up to scratch - I've seen some of the others and they are exquisite work. Mine are very much beginner pieces but I guess they will look OK on the tree.
We were given the star shapes with different designs already drawn by the group who are responsible for our decorations. The thread and beads were also part of the overall scheme.
I wasn't crazy about this star design, some of the stars are lighter gold or white backgrounds and I thought the designs had more possibilities, but now I've done mine I've grown to like them a lot more.
I hope my mother is impressed, I have the feeling that she somehow knows about my late life conversion to embroidery!
